Looks like one of my Credit Crunch cartoons has been lifted and used by the Daily Mail Here.

Not sure whether to be flattered or annoyed that they didn’t ask \ pay for using it. I think more the latter!

Edit: Seems the Daily Mail have taken the page down.

The funny/annoying thing is that you’ve already copyrighted it, but in some half arsed attempt to cover themselves, they’ve tagged it as copyright of B3ta!

Comment by Joliet

I know, my copyright notice is hardly hard to spot. I guess at least they didn’t try to remove it

GTA has a chat about this yesterday on the board and i think he’s organising a letter on behalf of all the people affected by the Daily Mail’s lifting off b3ta. Don’t know if you’d want to send something yourself but its probably worth a chat to Archie as well.

Comment by lynxkitten

thanks lynxkitten – I’ve already been in touch with him!

Wouldn’t have been so bad if they’d given a link back to you. Without that, it’s just plain ripping you off.

Comment by Flash

Yeah Flash, I’ve not seen a massive increase in traffic. In fact, hits are probably slightly down on average. Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned the Daily Mail, it could be putting people off visiting

Comment by roodiedoodie

Oh holy crap…

Comment by Nimish Batra

That sums it up very nicely Nimish!

That stinks. I’m a regular reader (and fan) and find that kind of behaviour deplorable. So sorry.

I just posted this onthe Mail’s page:

“The best credit crunch jokes to have you laughing all the way to the bank” – will have the Mail laughing all the way to the bank, you mean… Most of those images were lifted from without any acknowledgement or permission from the creators…

but as the comments are moderated, I doubt it will get through…

Mine didn’t. Daily Mail are a bunch of w*nkers.

Daily Mail’s new column: “Winking at the copyright law for fun and profit”?

I think they should’ve simply put up links to originals and be done with it, rather than show their utter lack of technical aptitude and disregard for copyright, which publishing houses scream bloody murder over. Sad.

Comment by Nimish Batra

Thanks for all the comments guys. I’m looking into contacting them about it. I’ll keep you posted with how it goes.
